Physiotherapy

Physical therapy at the Lymph Balance Centre is a combination of many techniques.

Physiotherapy is well researched and is scientific and evidence-based. It also allows the flexibility required to treat each person on an individual basis and to working as a team with the client. The combination of hands-on manual therapy and lifestyle improvements – including rehabilitation exercises – are modified for each individual.

The initial assessment is very thorough and includes the therapist going over your medical and family history with you. This is the gateway to getting comfortable with each other and identifying the optimal treatment plan. We focus on patient centered goals and outcome measures. This offers us baselines and markers which are used to chart and observe your progress.

Persistent or chronic pain and dysfunction can have profoundly negative effects on your abilities, day to day functioning, range of motion, and strength. Finding the most suitable movements and treatments to ease your pain and improve all these other areas is a specialty of physiotherapy here at the Lymph Balance Centre.

Specific training in treating Cancer Patients with Physical Therapy gives Fiona, our Physiotherapist, the background knowledge required to know what treatment is most suitable at different stages of diagnosis / surgery /  treatment / recovery. Understanding how cancer works, the effects of medication and treatments on the body, energy, and moods all help to make the best modifications for each person.

A significant number of cancer patients develop loss of range of motion or restricted movement patterns during or after cancer treatment. These can also be lifestyle or age related. Fiona has honed her skills in treating these conditions to gain improved range of motion and strength for optimizing function and for reducing pain.

Working with a colleague in Ireland Fiona produced a class for women post-breast-cancer-surgery. This class includes weekly meditation, exercises, and a short information session to enhance the client’s understanding of their body and disease and improve range of motion and strength. This class was very well received and appreciated by the attendees, with them showing improved range of movement, decrease in pain and dysfunction, and in so doing helping them on their journey of recovery.

Unique to this clinic, Fiona is experienced and trained in Posture and Bra Fitting. Posture is either static such as working at home, in an office/car or dynamic such as working outdoors, doing hobbies or sports. Educating the clients on optimizing their posture and/or bra fitting empowers them by being taught these simple self-help tools.

Women before, during, and after pregnancy can all be treated with physiotherapy to help ease their aches and pains, and improve function. All women can benefit from being checked for Diastasis, pelvic misalignment, and poor posture.
