Compression, Garments and Prostheses

At the Lymph Balance Center we know the value and importance of properly fitted, high quality compression garments and breast prosthetics.

Whether that is a compression arm sleeve, glove or gauntlet, we ensure that you are fitted correctly for you body in order to restore symmetry and confidence. We are here to help you no matter if you have had a full mastectomy, lumpectomy or reconstruction. Our prosthetic and bra fitting appointments are 1 hour long, in order to go over any questions or concerns you may have, go over options, and fit you properly. No question is left unanswered.

We carry a wide range of bras, breast forms, and clothing in order to make you feel fully supported.

Post Surgery can be such a difficult process to go through. We offer specialized recovery garments that help you feel comfortable and aid in your healing process.

We stock comfortable drain management camisoles and bras that help support your drain and healing process. Having the drain in is often the most uncomfortable part of the post-surgery phase. The drain can tug on and irritate that open incision. Our camisoles and bras help to support and keep the drains close in specially designed pockets to order to make sure that they are secure and as comfortable as possible. This is absolutely critical for the first 2-3 weeks after surgery.

These speciality garments are also great if you are having reconstruction, or any breast augmentation or reduction surgeries.

Immediately after surgery, it is important to not have a heavily weighted prosthetic, as this can irritate your fresh scar. We have several options for you, such as the ‘puffies’ that come with your post-op cami, Knitted Knockers, or even the leisure form that offers a more natural shape.

We offer breast prosthetics for all surgery types, whether that is a single or bilateral mastectomy, lumpectomy, or partial mastectomy. Our certified fitter will work with you to fit you correctly and get you feeling ‘back to normal’ again. Our fitting appointments are 1 hour in length in order to go over all of your options. Breast forms come in a wide range of styles, shapes, sizes, and types of material. It is our job to make sure that you have the best possible choice for your prosthetic!

What to expect during your first appointment for Compression Garment fitting / consultation:

Our custom compression garment fittings and sales are currently being administered on-site by a certified garment fitter from the Kenron Compounding Pharmacy. The fitter will be in the clinic on Wednesdays from 10am to 4pm. Your compression garment fitting / consultation appointment will be approximately 15 minutes long. We can fit for flat knit and round knit compression garments as well as reduction kits from a variety of brands such as Sigvaris, Medi, and Truform, and more. Please call us at 403-472-3100 to schedule your fitting today.

What to expect during your first appointment for Bra Fitting or Breast Prosthetic:

Your first appointment will take approximately an hour. This will give us time to listen to your needs and perform the fitting.

Please be prepared to bring: your favourite t-shirt or snuggest top and one bra that represents the style that you wore before your surgery.

In the privacy of our fitting room, we start by discussing your surgery, your bra preferences and your lifestyle. This will help give your fitter a better idea about your needs and which products will be right for you.

Next we fit you into a soft cupped bra that allows both you and your fitter to see which prosthesis is best for you. Prostheses are sized 0-17 as opposed to cup sizes.

Once you and your fitter have selected the prosthesis that fit you and your lifestyle you will choose from a wide selection of mastectomy bras. These bras have specially designed cups that hold the prosthesis in place.

You will leave with the right fit, feeling balanced, and you can feel comfortable and confident getting right back to you daily activities.

Please ensure you check with your provincial government programs to help with the costs of your breast prosthesis.

Prosthesis Care

Your prosthesis should be washed with a mild soap or the appropriate cleaner as recommended by the manufacturer, rinsed with clear water and patted dry with a lint-free towel. If you are wearing a contact form, the adhesive should be cleaned using a drop of the recommended soap and scrubbed with the provided brush, rinsed and allowed to air dry. You may also dry with a hair dryer on the cool setting for a quicker drying time.
